Solar Makes a Difference in Your Home or Business
When a fierce windstorm struck several states in the northeast in October 2017, hundreds of thousands of people in the path of the storm lost power. But not a dog kennel and grooming business outside Waterbury, Vermont owned by Andrea McMahon. Asked by PBS Newshour how her solar panels worked during the storm, she told them, “It worked.” That kept her income rolling in following the storm, but McMahon saved money in other ways.
Her solar panels generate more power than she needs in the summertime and McMahon uses credits she receives to power up in the winter. “We basically have no electric bill,” she says. “And it’s usually pretty big.”
For Alexis Laberge, solar power was life-changing, she moved into a 14-unit development in Waltham, Vermont that was built as low-income housing.
“I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when they were like ‘oh, we’re building some solar-powered housing, and it’s going to be energy-efficient. And it’s really reasonable.’” she told PBS. “As a single parent, that’s obviously really important.”
Other Reasons to Go Solar
Keeping your power independent from your utility company and making your energy bill more affordable are just two of the reasons to switch to solar, but there are so many more. HuffingtonPost reminds you that solar panels are easy to install and they’re safe. You won’t lose power when the sun goes down, solar energy will work throughout the day. And yes, solar energy helps the environment. It’s a clean energy source that doesn’t create greenhouse gasses or other emissions.
