At GreenLeaf Solar we’re excited every day to be part of the renewable energy revolution. We know that new ideas, new technology, and an educated public are leading to a greener planet, more energy efficiency and lower energy bills for our customers who are being powered up by solar panels.
GreenLeaf Solar Panels Can Change Your Lives
GreenLeaf sees renewable energy change lives every day and we can help you change your life and your bottom line. You probably see the renewable energy revolution too. Hardly a day goes by when you don’t see a story in the news about solar panels and renewable energy. Renewable energy touches all aspects of life and we want to tell you about some of the issues and news reports we’ve noticed recently.
Solar Panels and Housing and Travel
Solar panels make energy more affordable for GreenLeaf customers, but elected officials in Miami say it will help reduce housing costs as well. South Miami recently became the first city in Florida to mandate solar panels on all new homes, according to WTVJ in Miami.
“We’re concerned about the future of children and grandchildren,” South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard said. “So, the question becomes what can we do today to give our kids and our grandchildren a better future in the face of climate change and sea-level rise and we have to do everything we can.”
The bill passed the City Commission by a 4-1 vote and South Miami joined San Francisco and two other cities in California in mandating solar panels.
We’re also seeing the rise of solar panels being used at public facilities like airports. According to PV magazine, which covers issues related to solar power, a new international airport in Mexico City will include the construction of a large solar plant. The cost of the project will be $5.6 billion and the airport’s ultimate goal is to operate with 100 percent renewable energy. The airport is being built on federal land in Ex-Vaso de Texcoco, near Mexico City and the country says it will be the world’s second largest airport.
Green Coloring, Green Issues and GreenLeaf
Not every advance in solar panels has to do with technology. Recently, a group of Dutch researchers discovered a way to change the color of solar panels and may eventually get panels to match the aesthetics of the building they’re located on. According to Cosmos Magazine, the researchers developed a nano-technology system which can add color-changing particles to solar panels turning them green. The technology does reduce the efficiency of the panels, but the researchers say there are other benefits.
“Some people say ‘why would you make solar cells less efficient?’ But we can make solar cells beautiful without losing too much efficiency,” said Verena Neder, one of the researchers.
“The new method to change the color of the panels is not only easy to apply but also attractive as an architectural design element and has the potential to widen their use.”
How’s that for a green issue? Of course, we see Long Island turning green every day at GreenLeaf Solar. We’ve helped many people make the switch to solar power. It saves you money on your long term energy bill and it helps save the planet. To learn more, contact GreenLeaf today.
